Gay Marriage Is Ruled Legal in Connecticut

— filed under:

A sharply divided Connecticut Supreme Court struck down the state’s civil union law on Friday and ruled that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. Connecticut thus joins Massachusetts and California as the only states to have legalized gay marriages.

The NY Times reports The ruling, which cannot be appealed and is to take effect on Oct. 28, held that a state law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples, and a civil union law intended to provide all the rights and privileges of marriage to same-sex couples, violated the constitutional guarantees of equal protection under the law.

CNS reports The decision makes Connecticut the third state to create homosexual marriage, following California, whose top court did so in May, and Massachusetts, which was the first to do so in 2004.

One News Now reports Once again, a court has overruled the will of the people and taken it upon itself to legalize homosexual "marriage." Connecticut's Supreme Court ruled Friday that same-sex couples have the right to marry, making that state the third behind Massachusetts and California to legalize such unions.

The Christian Post reports Pro-family activists in Connecticut are urging the people of the state to vote “yes” for a constitution convention when they head for the polls on Nov. 4.
